Regulars of the Bottle Inn in Marshwood, Dorset, decided to put together two things that usually live quite happily without one another – your mouth and nettles. And on this day they annually inaugurate the World Nettle-Eating Championships.

Nettles not only sting, but they also taste like ‘a mixture of spinach and cow-pat’. You can’t use any mouthnumbing substances, nor can you bring your own nettles (like you’d want to). And the sting in this tale? – it isn’t even about how many nettles you can eat in a minute or something – the contest lasts for a whole hour.
